Carbon Shredders Town Meeting Resolution: Passed in Warren, Waitsfield and Fayston

Fayston, Warren and Waitsfield all approved the Carbon Shredders "10 by 10" resolution, plus Warren approved a $600 financial contribution that is being matched by NRG systems to help pay for Low Carbon Diet books and other tools for the community.

Shall the voters of the Town of Fayston resolve to support the “10 by 10” carbon reduction initiative, as proposed by the Mad River Valley-based group Carbon Shredders, through active participation in the “10 by 10” program. This participation would include calculating current C02 footprint and using tools made available for free by Carbon Shredders, and pledging a 10% reduction in energy-usage and CO2 emissions by 2010. This resolution would pledge participation by Town institutions and facilities within the restrictions of the towns resources.

This resolution is win-win for everyone and simply asks the towns for official endorsement of our "10 by 10 initiative" to reduce household C02 emissions and energy use, through efficiency programs, by 2010.

The average home that goes through this program and reduces their energy use by 10% will save $700 per year. If every home in the valley does this, the MR Valley will have nearly $2 million in savings PER year, money that can be spent locally and on local renewable energy systems.
